VMware View Desktop Installation

1)          Once desktop is created and all updates are installed shut it down and create a snapshot named BASE

2)          Remove any attached ISO files to the VM and clean up temp files and folders. Disk defrag is optional but recommended

3)          Boot up the desktop open registry and navigate to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\Netlogon\Parameters change DisablePasswordChange to 1

4)          Pick a server and install the KMS, install the Keys for all volume license products.

5)          Rearm windows and office by running an elevated command prompt and “slmgr –rearm”

6)          Rearm Office

  3. cd program files
  4. cd common files
  5. cd office shared
  6. cd Office Software Protection Platform
  7. ospprearm.exe

7)          Install View Agent

8)          Install all Line of Business applications then shut down and create a new snapshot named accordingly.

9)          Ipconfig /flushdns

10)       Ipconfig /release

11)       Shutdown VM and create a new Snapshot with a descriptive name and descripton of what is installed.

12)       Create new pool either floating or dedicated.

13)       Entitle users to the pool

Also as best practices create a new OU in AD and place the newly created desktops in that pool.

For desktop VMs using VMXnet3 NICs, you can significantly improve the peak video playback performance of your View desktop by simply setting the following registry setting to the value recommended by Microsoft:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Afd\Parameters\FastSendDatagramThreshold to 1500

[N.B. A reboot of the desktop VM is required after changing this registry setting]

When running full-screen videos at 1080p resolution on a 2vCPU desktop, we see this deliver frame-rate improvements of up to 1.4X.
